Bible Verses About The Angel Of The Lord

Early Christian writers often read the Angel of the Lord as more than a created angel, and several named him as the same divine one who spoke to Moses, Hagar, Jacob, and Gideon. Justin Martyr, Novatian, Victorinus, and Origen all give this reading in different places, while Hermas and Tatian mostly preserve angel language without the same explicit claim. The Bible passages most often tied to this view are Exodus 3, Judges 6, and Judges 13, where the angel speaks and acts with God’s own authority.

The pattern is broad across the second and third centuries, though some cards are only direct Bible quotations or general angel passages rather than full explanations. There is also some mixed material where β€œangel” means messenger by office, not nature, so those pieces help with background but do not carry the main claim.
