Bible Verses About The Abomination Of Desolation

Early Christian writers generally read the abomination of desolation as a future temple desecration tied to Antichrist, while also remembering Antiochus as a past pattern. Hippolytus, Irenaeus, Clement of Alexandria, Cyprian, and Origen all connect Daniel’s words with Jesus’ warning in Matthew 24 and Mark 13, and several say the figure will stand in the holy place or temple and stop sacrifice.

Some writers also use Daniel 11–12 to give a timeline of 1,290 days, showing that they treated the prophecy as a real end-time event, not just a symbol. At the same time, the type behind the prophecy was often linked to Antiochus and the old temple crisis, so the tradition is broad but not perfectly uniform in detail. There is little evidence here for a purely spiritual or non-temple meaning in the earliest writers.
