Bible Verses About Sunday Worship

Early Christian writings do support Sunday worship, especially as a regular day for gathering, reading Scripture, prayer, and the breaking of bread. Justin Martyr gives the clearest early description in the second century, and the Didache, Tertullian, Cyprian, Peter of Alexandria, and the Apostolic Constitutions all treat the Lord’s Day as a day of joy tied to Jesus’ resurrection.

The evidence is broad and repeated across several centuries, though some writers speak more about not fasting or kneeling than about a full Sunday liturgy. The Bible passages most directly tied to the practice are John 20:1, Acts 20:7, and 1 Corinthians 16:2, while some other passages are only background about the eighth day or resurrection symbolism.
