Bible Verses About Philosophy And Christian Truth

Early Christian writers had a split view of philosophy: some used it as a helper for finding truth, while others warned that it could lead people away from Christ. Clement of Alexandria and Justin Martyr often treated philosophy as a search for truth that could point toward the Son, but Tertullian and Lactantius argued that human philosophy was unstable, empty, or full of deceit. Origen and Hippolytus also warned that Christians must test philosophy by Christ and by the apostolic teaching, not by worldly reasoning.

The evidence is broad across the 2nd and 3rd centuries, and it is clear that Christian truth was treated as higher than Greek philosophy, even where philosophy was allowed a limited role.
