Bible Verses About Peter The Apostle

Early Christian writings often call Peter the first or leading apostle and use his words in Acts and the Gospels as important teaching texts. Cyprian, Tertullian, Irenaeus, Origen, Tatian, and other writers quote Peter as a key witness, especially for Matthew 16, Acts 10-15, and John 21. The strongest and most repeated theme is Peter’s special role in confession, preaching, and the church’s early story, but some writers also say the same promises belong in some sense to all apostles or to every believer.

The evidence is broad for Peter’s prominence, but mixed on whether Matthew 16 gives Peter alone a unique office or a pattern shared more widely.
