Bible Verses About Laying On Of Hands

Early Christian writers taught that laying on of hands was a normal Church act for giving the Holy Spirit, restoring repentant believers, and ordaining clergy. Cyprian, Origen, the Apostolic Constitutions, and the anonymous Treatise on Re-Baptism all connect it with receiving the Spirit after baptism or after coming back to the Church. The Bible passages most directly tied to this practice are Acts 8:17, Acts 6:6, Acts 13:3, 1 Timothy 4:14, and 1 Timothy 5:22.

The evidence is broad and fairly consistent, though some passages are about healing, blessing, or Old Testament background rather than the Church rite itself.
