Bible Verses About Jesus Christ The Son Of God

Early Christians plainly taught that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and many also said he is the eternal Word, Lord, and truly divine. Ignatius, Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, Tertullian, Origen, Hippolytus, Novatian, Gregory Thaumaturgus, and Alexander of Alexandria all use that language across the 1st to 3rd centuries. The New Testament passages most often tied to this belief are John 1:1, John 1:18, John 20:31, Mark 1:1, Romans 1:4, and 1 John 5:20.

The witness is broad and early, though some writers stress his deity more strongly than others, and a few passages also guard against confusing the Son with the Father. Overall, the evidence is strong that early Christians confessed Jesus as the Son of God and, in many texts, as fully divine.
