Bible Verses About Inspiration Of Scripture

Early Christian writers taught that Scripture is given by God’s Spirit, not by ordinary human invention. Clement of Rome calls the Scriptures “the true utterances of the Holy Spirit,” Origen says the sacred books were composed by “inspiration of the Holy Spirit,” and Theophilus says the Holy Spirit speaks through Moses and the prophets. Justin Martyr, Gregory Thaumaturgus, Hippolytus, and others also describe the prophets as moved, filled, or carried along by God.

The witness is broad across the second and third centuries, and the clearest Bible texts used for this teaching are 2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:21, and 1 Corinthians 2:13.
