Scripture Topic Guide

Bible Verses About Faith

Early Christian writers taught that faith is more than a word; it is trust in God that belongs with obedience, love, and perseverance. Clement of Rome, Ignatius, Hermas, Irenaeus, Clement of Alexandria, Origen, Tertullian, and Cyprian all connect faith with salvation, righteousness, and a faithful life. The strongest and broadest witness says people are justified by faith, but faith is expected to work, endure doubt, and show itself in obedience and love.

The evidence is broad across the second and third centuries, but some texts focus more on faith’s power, some on justification, and some on faith working with deeds, so the picture is mixed rather than one-note.
