Bible Verses About Brahmans And Indian Religion

Early Christian writers did not leave a large amount of direct teaching about Brahmans or Indian religion, but they did mention them as real people and, in some cases, as Indian philosophers known for ascetic living. Clement of Alexandria, Origen, and Hippolytus all refer to Brahmins, Indian gymnosophists, or Samanæans in discussions of philosophy and foreign wisdom. The strongest witnesses are descriptive, not devotional:

Hippolytus gives a fuller sketch of Brahman customs, while Clement places Indian sages among other non-Greek philosophers. A few other passages only mention India in passing, so the overall picture is broad on reference and thin on direct Christian teaching about Indian religion itself.
