And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him. And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

Jesus receives baptism and is publicly identified as the beloved Son.
John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins.
John preaches the baptism of repentance and many are baptized in the Jordan.
Commands and Direct Teaching
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Jesus commands his disciples to baptize the nations.
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
The risen Christ joins belief, baptism, and salvation in the preaching commission.
Apostolic Practice
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Peter joins repentance, baptism, forgiveness, and the promised gift of the Holy Spirit.

The Ethiopian eunuch asks for baptism after hearing Christ preached from Scripture.

Saul is baptized after his sight is restored.

Paul distinguishes John's baptism from baptism in the name of the Lord Jesus.
Doctrine and Meaning
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
Jesus speaks of being born of water and the Spirit when teaching about entering the kingdom.
Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
Paul connects baptism with participation in Christ's death and resurrection.
Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul? I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius; Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name. And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other. For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
Paul addresses baptism, Christ's name, and divisions in Corinth.
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
Paul connects baptism in one Spirit with incorporation into one body.
For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
Paul describes the baptized as having put on Christ.
