What did the early church think about the book wisdom of Solomon? I started reading the book and am impressed but I would like to hear what you and the early church believe about it.

The deuterocanonical book Wisdom of Solomon is quoted from and alluded to in the New Testament more than any other deuterocanonical book—as well as in the writings of the early Christians. For example, apostle Paul quotes Wisdom 7:26 in Hebrews 1:3, switching the Greek pronouns from feminine to masculine:

  • He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. (Heb. 1:3)
  • She is the radiance of eternal light and the spotless mirror of God's activity, and the image of his goodness. (Wis. 7:26)

Apostle Paul's “fellow-laborer” Clement of Rome, mentioned in Philippians 4:3 as “Clement”, quotes from Wisdom of Solomon in his letter to the Corinthians, as well as other deuterocanonical books such as Sirach, Judith, and the deuterocanonical version of Esther, strongly implying he and the apostles viewed these books as sacred Scripture.
