New Perspective on Paul - Helpful or Not?

Hey guys,

I wanted to get some input on this issue. So, I'm not super familiar with the whole New Perspective on Paul trend. I'm wondering who's familiar with it and what is your take on it? Is it helpful or not?

Could it be a way for Protestants to reassess perspectives and doctrines that have been taken for granted for so long? Or does it overstep and not actually help us return to a more biblical/historical understanding of the faith and what Paul was actually communicating in his writings.

I've initially been receptive to what I know of NPP but it occurred to me that it could be another mixed bag and so I don't want to endorse it too strongly if its really not in line with historical, pre-Nicene, Apostolic Christianity.

What are your thoughts?

Also curious to know if anyone has read John M.G. Barclay's "Paul and the Gift" and what you thought of it...

Hello Mr. Lutyk, I have not heard this new view you are speaking of. What are the core beliefs behind it.

I am familiar. This is not new, but an essential and critical discussion that distills down to the central idea of how the TaNaKh relates to the Apostolic revelation aka the gospel..

Gentile inclusion.. that is, how should those from among the nations be received into the ekklesia?
Did Paul become a "Christian" and abandon Torah?
Are Gentiles to obey Moses?

I would recommend ..
Tim Hegg's, "The Letter Writer"
Daniel Gruber's works --
"Rabbi Akiva's Messiah:

The Origins of Rabbinic Authority" and "Copernicus and the Jews"
E.P. Sanders, " Paul and Palestinian Judaism"
