Before I started this module I decided I would try the quiz first to see how well I did. I got 4 out of 6. It was my first less than perfect score, which I suspected would be the case since I hadn't listened to the lesson. When the lesson was over I took the test again and got 3 out of 6. I'm curious to know which questions I got wrong

I haven't tried that course but on all the ones I've done you can see which ones you answered incorrectly by clicking "view questions"

Oh. Cool. Thanks

Hello, dear brother Daryle. I have found that if I listen to the message (sometimes more than once, but usually just once) and then read the transcript or outline that is attached to the message, I always score a perfect score. I am not the sharpest guy around, but following that procedure seems to be working out really well for me and may work out really well for others.

Were you a member on the old version of the THF website?

The quizzes there were higher stakes - if your score was over 80%, you did not have the opportunity to retake a quiz. If you scored under 80%, then you could retake a quiz to get your score over 80%.

As dear brother Phillip stated, on this version of the website you can easily veiw your answers to any quiz and see exactly which questions you answered incorrectly.

May God richly bless you as you continue to seek first His kingdom and His righteousness.

Hi Charles!

I was not a member of the old site. I've actually only very recently discovered the early church writings and even more recently David Bercot. I followed a link on one of his talks on YouTube that brought me here and I was really excited to join immediately and work through it all.

I have been taking Philip's advice and checking my answers. I actually forgot all about the transcripts or outlines. I will make use of those as well.

Thank you for your reply and God Bless!

Hello again, dear brother Daryle. I am so glad to hear about your journey of discovery regarding the early church writings and the writings/speakings of dear brother David Bercot. I remember when Scroll Publishing first made many of brother Bercot's audio messages available on YouTube. What a blessing that was, and continues to be. And what marvelous fruit those YouTube messages are bearing!

How wonderful to know that you found us here by following a link on one of brother Bercot's talks on YouTube.

I started a discussion thread stating my gratitude for the outlines/transcripts available on the "Materials" tab for most messages. Several of us made a request for outlines/transcripts on the old site, and I am so grateful for the labors of the staff at THF to grant that request in such a wonderful and complete way.

Maybe it is just me, but I have found that the combination of listening attentively to a message followed by reading the outline/transcript really slowly is a great help to understanding and retaining the subject matter. My language in my discussion thread may have been a little too flowery and exuberant, but I was really happy to discover the outlines/transcripts. Here is one quote from my discussion thread:

"Maybe it is just my personal learning style, but I have found these documents containing detailed outlines or transcripts to be a huge help. Having these documents available on the 'Materials' tab has transformed my learning experience here, creating a learning environment that is wonderfully deep, rich, robust, immersive, multifaceted, and multi-layered."

Hi brother Charles!

I suppose I could indirectly credit YouTube with helping me find brother Bercot's writings. My journey began by Googling early Christian writings, which led me to a website where they have a whole bunch of them. I read the Didache first which got me pretty excited because it actually outlined church practice in the early church. However, I wasn't sure which of the other writings to take seriously and which ones were heretical.

I decided to see what I could find on YouTube and searched for the Didache on there. One of the first videos that I checked out was a channel called Post-Apostolic Church which helped me to find other early Christian writings. I posted about how excited I was to find all of this out and the creator of the channel encouraged me to email him if I had any questions about how pre-Nicene believers could support one another.

So I emailed him and he mentioned brother Bercot's book "Will The Real Heritics Please Stand Up". That led me to search for David Bercot on YouTube and when I clicked the link to come here I got a huge flashing warning about how Google wasn't sure it was a safe site. I clicked through anyway and I'm glad I did. Oh, and the creator of Post-Apostolic Church and I have been emailing back and forth regularly, so that's nice.

I think I saw your post about the materials which is how I learned of them in the first place. But I promptly forgot about them. Generally I listen on the mobile site while I'm working or cleaning or something like that so I'm not spending much time looking at the website. However today I did remember the extra materials and I downloaded them as a PDF for easier reading on my phone and I did find it quite helpful.

What was the old site like? I only wish I had known about this place sooner. I suppose I'm happy to experience the joy of discovery now, but for many years I knew something wasn't quite right about what I was learning and doing in church and I would vacillate between hyper-grace and a dread fear that I was sinning way too much and maybe God wasn't actually okay with it like everyone told me.

I know that the early Christian writings aren't scripture, but without them I just wondered if I was wrong about what I was reading in the Bible. How could nearly every church be wrong? I would try reading commentaries and they would all say different things without ever explaining how they knew what they knew. My tactic was to read as much as I could and get everyone's opinion and then try to decide which was right and bank on God being forgiving if I was wrong.

It's just nice that my brain no longer has to attend gymnastics class to apply the Bible in my life.

Blessings!

Whew, @Charles Hood, doesn't reading the manuscripts along with listening take a lot of time?

Or do you just sort of scan?

@Daryle Henry, Yes, I wholeheartedly agree with you and your views on this platform! It really is an amazing place. Teachings on practically every subject that a normal Bible-believing Christian would face in day-to-day life. Solid foundations for learning and then learning itself.

The THF version 1.0 was also great; however, it was not nearly as diverse in its courses (okay, the courses do keep coming) and was a lot more simple. This version,(2.0), is much more complex, but also much more learner-oriented. For example, on the first version, you could not see anyone's profiles (there weren't any) but here you can see a person's bio, message him, see his profile pic, see his cover pic, and a host of other info all on a person's profile.

In the first version, there was nothing like that. It took a while for me to find my way around the first few days on after they changed, but I can really say that the difference is a far cry better than the first version was!
