Hi, I have a question regarding Clement in Philippians 4:3 and the early church disciple named Clement of Rome. Is Clement in Philippians 4:3, the same Clement of Rome? In his book, Will the real heretics please stand up, David Bercot says it is. However, when I do some research, it says no it is not the same Clement. There seems to be no historical evidence for that claim. What are your thoughts? Blessings Bruno

Quoting from Eusebius Ecclesiastical History book 3 ch 15 “And in the twelfth year of the same reign Clement succeeded Anencletus after he had been bishop of the church of the Romans for twelve years. The apostle states that he had been his his fellow-worker in his epistle to the Philippians saying, “With Clement and my other fellow-workers whose names are in the book of Life.”           I believe Eusebius was writing during the early 4th Century. I am not sure how the Early Christians, who lived before him felt, concerning a connection between Clement of Rome and Paul’s epistle to the Phillippians. It would be interesting to see the sources which would have led David Bercot to a different persuasion. I also want to say I am no way dogmatic on this issue, God forbid.
