Hi everyone.

What does meat sacrificed to idols mean?

What are examples of that in our present age and in the different cultures in the world?

For me coming from the Philippines, I would understand that to not eat food offered to idols (saints and Mary, Jesus idols) since the Philippines is dominantly Roman Catholic.

Please help me learn more about this.

Hello, Wabe. This is a good question- many of us (at least I don't) look at this very often since it doesn't really affect our lives a lot. Anyway, like you, I live in a country where Catholicism (Roman Catholicism) is practiced a lot, and yes, they would have the view that food offered to idols is not 'lawful' to be eaten. So I think that I would have the same belief as they would, concerning this one subject;

in other words, that we do not eat food offered to idols, and also that eating raw meat or meat from an animal that is already dead would not be allowed. That would be my understanding of it.

Anyway, hope that all helps! Judson

Thanks for your response brother.

You mentioned to not eat raw meat. Does that include fish like sushi or sashimi, etc? And where does that stand written in the Bible dear brother?

Thank you and God bless you.

Hmm... I really wouldn't know about that... is sushi actually completely raw? (sorry I haven't ever eaten it :)

#5

But yeah I don't know. Maybe someone with more insight could answer that one :)

I haven't really thought of this a lot. I also don't know a lot about sushi, etc.

I thought maybe it was partly the blood in the raw meat that is the issue, and not so much the meat itself?

I like what Romans 14:13-15 says about the issue. We are living under a new law that is based on love for God and our fellow-people.

I would like to learn more about this... But these are some of my thoughts.

Blessings all

Yes, I think that living in the NT would have a part in how we are to handle such things... I mean, now that I remember, these laws were really written in the Old Testament. And same with you all, I would really love to hear what more people have to say about this!

Abstaining from blood, and from meat offered to idols, is 2 different things, I believe.

As for abstaining from blood, that can be done quite easily while eating raw meat.

I don't believe there's anything morally wrong with eating raw meat. It will just have an unpleasant texture to those who are not used to it, and has a risk of infecting you (E.coli if eating beef, parasites if eating pork or fish, Salmonella if eating poultry).

As far as sushi goes, the main ingredient is rice. But seafood is often served with it, and many cultures eat seafood raw. See the below article.

Yes, I can see your point. I guess most raw fish meat, etc, that is served in restaurants does not have blood in the equation :)

Thank you brother.

Thanks for your input.

Thanks brother.

That is an insightful response.

Thank you.

Please understand that I live in the Philippines and there are common dishes here that blood is included and that is as normal eating sushi or sashimi to the Japanese.
