Hi does anyone here have any resources for learning biblical Greek? I am using DuoLingo right now and am surprised at how helpful it has been so far. That being said I was wondering if any of you could recommend a book or an online course to learn biblical Greek.

Thank you!

Hi Sean,

I have found Bill Mounce’s Koine Greek courses to be very well done. The first few lessons are free on his website. Link below.

I'd recommend Biblingo. This program's approach blends modern language-learning techniques with immersive exercises, helping you not only learn but also retain and develop fluency in Koine Greek.

I also use Biblingo, which is a subscription, but with a 10 day free trial. Also, on the Friday after Thanksgiving, they have discounts that bring the cost down to $13 a month if buying the annual plan. They also have an android and iOS app with the same lessons.

There are also free tools like STEP Bible and GNT Reader that show the Bible in the original language and have gloss definitions for words and Grammer info.

Good evening! I'm glad you're interested in reading the NT in its original language. There is a tremendous amount of resources to learn Greek, and one resource I would suggest is the Biblical Greek Program biblicalgreekprogram.com. This teacher offers live online video lessons to fit your schedule, as well as occasional in-person immersion classes. This program is geared toward teaching you to speak Greek as a living language, and using that knowledge to read the Biblical text.

Does this coarse teach modern Greek pronunciation? I find it a bit too academic to learn a pronunciation of Kione Greek which is based on conjecture. Might as well learn the ancient Kione definition alongside modern pronunciation, and so have many other resources to learn Greek fluently in Greece! My wife is always wishing to take trips, which I find worldly, but if she learned Greek we might find a legitimate cause!

Also, any chance the Old Order Amish might give up Pennsylvania Dutch for Kione Greek! They would have a much better case! Forgive my humor, but it is true.

Biblingo is available with Koine, Early High Koine, Erasmian, and Modern pronunciations, so take your pick! I personally use Early High Koine. And yea, while I do speak PA Dutch, I would definitely recommend learning Greek over PA Dutch.😄

I see some wisdom in speaking a separate language for the cause of separation from the world. Thus my comment that if the Old Order were to speak Greek in their community they would still retain the benefits, while at the same time those who criticize them would have a much harder case to make. I understand it comes from your history, and my idea is unworkable. There are even some things the Martin Luther Bible has that are superior to most others.

But in the end it is the Greek that would help most, yes.

I'm a little late to the discussion but I'll just briefly say what I'm using. I primarily use the scripturial app. It's not well known but it's only a 1 time $10 and it's very helpful. I also study with my friend Joseph Neil. Roland already gave the link for his website. I'm also using Rodney Deckers Greek grammar. Taken together these 3 seem to give a fairly good balance.

"I primarily use the scripturial app. It’s not well known but it’s only a 1 time $10 and it’s very helpful."

Is this an android or iOS app? Or some other type of app?

@jeremysmartin399 it's available on both ios and Android according to the website.
