Hi everyone, I'm a student at Sattler College. I joined the Historic Faith team last year, and will probably be around on the website quite a bit this summer. You can expect to see course announcements and other posts from me on the discussion forum.
On a more personal note, I thought I'd share how teaching on the historic faith (specifically David Bercot's messages), in combination with Sattler, have impacted me. When I was maybe four or five, my parents were introduced to Bercot's teaching. We listened to his messages avidly, and became quite convinced of their truth.
As I grew older however, those teachings never seemed to bear real fruit in my life. I focused much more on the don'ts of Christianity, but somehow missed the dos of Jesus' teachings. Though Bercot often mentions that Jesus' core commands, like loving others, are most important, that never translated to understanding and action in my life.
Coming to Sattler changed that. I had the chance to see these teachings lived out in a church body; I beheld the difference between "believing" something, and it being so central to who you are as a person that everything you do flows from it.
So my caution to those like me, who love to learn but neglect to act, is that THF not just be a place to absorb good teaching. Love of learning is great, but can be detrimental if replaces actually experiencing what you're learning.
In light of that, we'd love the forum and community here to increasingly be a place to help each other live out the teachings of Jesus. If you have suggestions for how we can best do that, please leave them below!
In Christ,
Hadassah
