Hello,

I am Dagmar van Dusschoten (male) from the Netherlands. I am an active scientist (biophysicist) and go to a pentacostal church. My first step on the way to becoming a christian was accepting that the scientific description of life's history (especially abiogenesis) was just a belief, not a fact. This opened up the way to belief other things, like christianity. Here the Jehovah's witnesses were the initiators but I never joined them because I thought them to be Farisaic.

Both with the JW's and the pentacostal churches I grew up in (after finishing university) didn't thoroughly indoctrinate me so I could discover for myself what the bible teaches and indeed this is not what most churches/churchleaders teach (even though not thoroughly in PC). So most of the things David informs us about that the first churches believed come close to my own conclusions (except at least baptism), which is nice, but also not nice.

Who can one talk to when you believe something that is not shared by most others, who will have difficulty agreeing with you as they have been indoctrinated to some extend? Here I am stuck.

Hi Dagmar,

You can talk to me if you want to. I became a Christian almost 20 years ago. And from the outset I was terribly uncomfortable with how church worked. When I read the Bible it seemed to say things very differently than the way I was being taught at church. Less than a year after I became a Christian I went to Bible college and they instilled in me a healthy fear of reading anything extra-biblical and that fear remained with me for a long time.

But not long ago I decided that I wanted to find Christians who, like me, wanted to have a faith that looked like the one in the Bible. I started buying up books whenever I saw them about church history trying to get an idea of how things were a long time ago and what went wrong. Then, only a couple of weeks ago, I decided that I wanted to find out how early believers interpreted the Bible.

This led to me finally reading some of these other writings and starting to research who the people are the wrote them. Forever I didn't know which denomination to call myself. I'm happy to finally have a category for what I believe, and have always believed but I didn't know it. Pre-Nicene.

Like you I don't know anyone in real life who believes like I do because, as you say, they have been indoctrinated into Western Christianity. So for now, I'm trying to track down people on the internet to talk to about it.

God Bless!

Daryle
