The Martyrdom of Polycarp

We have written to you, brothers, concerning the martyrs, and especially the blessed Polycarp, who ended the persecution by sealing it with his martyrdom. For almost all the events that occurred before this happened so that the Lord might demonstrate a martyrdom fitting the Gospel from above. For he waited to be handed over, just as the Lord had done, so that we too might become his followers, while we focus not only on our own matters but consider our neighbors as well. For true and well-founded love involves not only wishing for one's own salvation but also for all the brothers.
