IF WE MUST PROVIDE TESTIMONIES ABOUT ONE GOD: even from the playwrights, listen to Sophocles, who speaks like this: "There is one God, indeed there is only one, who made the heavens and the wide earth below, the shimmering ocean waves, and the winds. But many of us mortals are mistaken in heart and create for comfort in our sorrows images of the gods in stone and wood, or figures carved in brass or ivory. We offer sacrifices and elaborate rites to these creations of our own hands, believing that in doing so we perform a pious act."
