Chapter 10 - The Training and Inspiration of Moses.
THESE THINGS: men of Greece, have been recorded in writing about the antiquity of Moses by those who were not of our religion; and they said that they learned all these things from the Egyptian priests, among whom Moses was not only born, but also was seen as worthy of partaking in all the education of the Egyptians, because he was adopted by the king’s daughter as her son. For the same reason, he was given great attention, according to the wisest historians who wrote about his life, actions, and lineage—I refer to Philo and Josephus.
These historians, in their accounts of Jewish history, say that Moses descended from the race of the Chaldaeans and was born in Egypt when his ancestors had migrated due to famine from Phoenicia to that country. God chose to honor him on account of his exceeding virtue and judged him worthy to become the leader and lawgiver of his own people when it was time for the Hebrews to return from Egypt to their own land. To him, God first communicated the divine prophetic gift that, in those days, came upon holy men.
He was the first to be appointed as our teacher in religion, followed by the other prophets who received the same gift as he did and taught us the same doctrines on the same subjects. We assert that these were our teachers, who conveyed nothing from their own human minds, but from the gift granted to them by God from above.
