Fragment 9: From the writings of John of Damascus

The soul can with difficulty be brought back to the good things it has fallen from, and is with difficulty pulled away from the evils it has gotten used to. If at any time you show a disposition to blame yourself, then perhaps, through the medicine of repentance, I might have good hopes for you. But when you completely despise fear and scornfully reject the very faith of Christ, it would have been better for you if you had never been born.
