Chapter 5: No Lesser Evils Have Emerged From the Same Source in The Most Recent Times. The Martyrdom of Peter and Paul

Let's not focus on ancient examples, but rather on the most recent spiritual heroes. Let's look at the noble examples from our own generation. Through envy and jealousy, the greatest and most righteous pillars of the Church have been persecuted and put to death. Let's keep in mind the illustrious apostles. Peter, due to unrighteous envy, endured not just one or two, but numerous hardships, and when he eventually faced martyrdom, he departed to the place of glory that was due to him. Because of envy, Paul also received the reward of patient endurance after being imprisoned seven times, forced to flee, and stoned. After preaching in both the East and West, he earned the illustrious reputation that was deserved for his faith, having taught righteousness to the whole world and reaching the farthest parts of the West. He suffered martyrdom under the prefects, thus he was removed from the world and went to the holy place, having proven himself a remarkable example of patience.
