First Epistle to the Corinthians
Chapter 3: The Unfortunate Condition of the Corinthian Church Following Internal Conflict Caused by Envy and Rivalry
Every kind of honor and happiness was given to you, and then what is written was fulfilled: “My beloved ate and drank, grew large and fat, and rebelled.” From this came rivalry and envy, strife and rebellion, persecution and disorder, war and captivity. So, the worthless rose up against the honored, those with no reputation against the renowned, the foolish against the wise, the young against the elderly. For this reason, righteousness and peace are now far from you, since everyone abandons the fear of God, has become blind in His faith, neither follows the ordinances of His appointment, nor acts in a manner befitting a Christian, but follows his own wicked desires, returning to the practice of an unrighteous and ungodly envy, by which death itself entered the world.
