Dialogue with Trypho
Chapter 108: The Resurrection of Christ did not Convert the Jews. Instead, They Sent People Around the World to Accuse Him
Even though all the people of your nation knew the story of Jonah, and even though Christ told you that He would give the sign of Jonah, asking you to repent of your wicked deeds at least after He rose from the dead, and to mourn before God like the Ninevites did, so that your nation and city might not be captured and destroyed, as they have been; yet not only have you not repented after learning that He rose from the dead, but, as I mentioned before, you have sent chosen and ordained men throughout the world to declare that a godless and lawless heresy came from one Jesus, a Galilean deceiver, whom we crucified, but whose disciples stole him by night from the tomb, where he was placed after being taken down from the cross, and now deceive people by claiming that he has risen from the dead and ascended to heaven.
Furthermore, you accuse Him of teaching the godless, lawless, and unholy doctrines you speak of to condemn those who confess Him to be Christ, and a Teacher from and Son of God. Besides this, even when your city is captured, and your land devastated, you do not repent, but dare to curse Him and all who believe in Him.
Yet we do not hate you or those who, because of you, have developed such prejudices against us; but we pray that even now all of you may repent and receive mercy from God, the compassionate and long-suffering Father of all.
