Dialogue with Trypho
Chapter 106: Christ's Resurrection is Predicted at the End of the Psalm
The rest of the Psalm clearly shows that He knew His Father would grant Him everything He asked for and would raise Him from the dead. He encouraged all who fear God to praise Him because He showed compassion to all races of believing men, through the mystery of His crucifixion. He stood among His brothers, the apostles—who repented for abandoning Him during His crucifixion—after He rose from the dead and convinced them that He had spoken of His suffering before it happened and that the prophets had foretold it. While living with them, He sang praises to God, as noted in the apostles' memoirs. The words are as follows: ‘I will declare Your name to my brothers; in the midst of the Church, I will praise You. Those who fear the Lord, praise Him; all descendants of Jacob, glorify Him. Let all the descendants of Israel fear Him.’
It is mentioned that He changed the name of one of the apostles to Peter and that this occurred, as well as changing the names of two other brothers, the sons of Zebedee, to Boanerges, meaning sons of thunder. This foretold that He was the one who called Jacob Israel and Oshea Jesus (Joshua), under whose name the survivors from Egypt were led into the land promised to the patriarchs. Moses predicted that He would arise like a star from Abraham’s descendants, saying, ‘A star shall arise from Jacob, and a leader from Israel,’ and another Scripture says, ‘Behold a man; the East is His name.’ Thus, when a star appeared in the sky at His birth, as noted in His apostles' memoirs, the Magi from Arabia recognized the sign and came to worship Him.
