Dialogue with Trypho
Chapter 74: The start of Psalm 96 is attributed to the Father by Trypho, but it refers to Christ with the words: "Declare his glory among the nations, the Lord," and so on
Then Trypho said, "We know that you quoted these because we asked you. But it doesn't seem to me that this Psalm you quoted last from the words of David refers to anyone other than the Father and Maker of the heavens and earth. However, you claimed that it referred to Him who suffered, whom you are also eagerly trying to prove to be Christ."
And I answered, “Listen to me, please, while I speak about the statement the Holy Spirit uttered in this Psalm. You will see that I speak without sin and that we are not truly deceived. In this way, you will be able to understand many other statements made by the Holy Spirit. ‘Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, everyone on earth: sing to the Lord, and bless His name; proclaim His salvation daily, His wonderful deeds among all people.’ He calls all the people of the earth, who have learned of this salvation, that is, the suffering of Christ by which He saved them, to sing and give praises to God the Father of all things.
They should recognize that He is worthy of praise and reverence, and that He is the Creator of heaven and earth, who accomplished this salvation for humanity, who also was crucified and died, and was deemed worthy by God to reign over all the earth. This is also clearly seen in the land into which He said He would bring your ancestors; He speaks thus: ‘These people will go after other gods and will abandon Me, breaking the covenant I made with them that day.
I will forsake them and turn My face from them; they will be ravaged, and many evils and afflictions will find them. They will say on that day, because the Lord my God is not among us, these troubles have found us. And I will definitely turn My face from them on that day, because of all the evils they have done, turning to other gods.’”
