Chapter 29:—Christ is Insignificant to Those Who Follow the Law.

LET US GLORIFY GOD: all nations gathered together, for He has visited us. Let us glorify Him by the King of glory, the Lord of hosts. For He has shown grace to the Gentiles as well, and He values our sacrifices more than yours. Why do I need circumcision when God has witnessed me? Why do I need that other baptism when I have been baptized with the Holy Ghost? I believe that by mentioning this, I could persuade even those with limited understanding. These words have not been crafted or embellished by me, but David sang them, Isaiah preached them, Zechariah proclaimed them, and Moses wrote them. Are you familiar with them, Trypho? They are found in your Scriptures, or rather not yours, but ours. For we believe them, but you, although you read them, do not grasp the spirit in them. Do not be offended or reproach us for the physical uncircumcision with which God made us; and do not find it strange that we drink hot water on the Sabbaths, since God governs the universe on this day just as He does on all others. The priests, as on other days, are commanded to offer sacrifices on this day, and there are many righteous men who have not performed these legal ceremonies, yet they are witnessed to by God Himself.
