Chapter 11: The heretics, due to their denial of the truth, have plunged into a deep pit of error: reasons to explore their beliefs.

THEY DO NOT BELIEVE THAT HE: who is God above all, created the various and diverse works of creation in His own domain, as He chose, being the designer of all things, like a wise architect and a powerful ruler. Instead, they believe that angels or some power separate from God, and who was unaware of Him, created the universe. By following this belief, they are not accepting the truth but are immersed in falsehood, losing the sustenance of real life and falling into emptiness and a void of shadow. They are like Aesop's dog, which dropped the bread to grab at its shadow, thereby losing the real food. It is easy to prove from the very words of the Lord that He recognizes one Father and Creator of the world, and the Maker of man, who was proclaimed by the law and the prophets, acknowledging no other, and that this One is truly God over all. He teaches that the adoption as sons linked to the Father, which is eternal life, occurs through Himself, granting it to all the righteous.

BUT SINCE THESE MEN ENJOY ATTACKING US AND: being nitpickers, come at us with points that don't actually work against us, bringing up numerous parables and tricky questions, I thought it would be good to instead ask them the following questions about their own doctrines, to show their improbability, and to end their audacity. After doing this, I plan to present the teachings of the Lord, so that they will not only lack the means to attack us, but, because they won't be able to reasonably respond to the questions, they will see that their argument strategy is ruined; so that either they return to the truth, humble themselves, stop their many fantasies, seek favor from God for the blasphemies they have spoken against Him, and gain salvation; or if they continue in the vainglory that has overtaken their minds, they will at least need to change their way of arguing against us.
