Question 5
Why is it dangerous to treat a favorable event, even an apparent answer to prayer, as proof of God's approval, as many Christians did when Constantine legalized Christianity and sought their friendship?
Another way to ask: Why is it risky to think a good event, or even an answered prayer, proves God approves, as many Christians did when Constantine became friendly to them?

Direct Answer

A favorable event can look like God's blessing and still lead people away from Him. Good appearances prove nothing, so every event has to be weighed by what the Scriptures say.

Support from the Message

- People today often depend on signs and think something interesting is God telling them something, even when it seems to be an answer to prayer. - After more than two centuries of persecution, an emperor offering friendship looked like an answer to prayer, and some thought it fulfilled the prophecy in Revelation. - David Bercot warns, "Things can look a certain way and be absolutely of Satan." - Jesus said you will be hated. The kings of this world will bow their knees to Him when He returns, and if it starts before then, watch out. - David does not judge those Christians. He admits he may have fallen into the same trap.
