Next question from Kendra Schrock here. How would you respond to people who say, sorry, I always forget to do this, who say that Jesus did not actually turn water into an alcoholic beverage, but rather a thick grape juice-like drink? Probably my response to so many things back then. I've been hearing that for at least 30 years, is do you have a primary source? I'm open to anything.
You know, just show me a primary source, meaning something from the time of Jesus or from the early Christians after showing that such a thing was there. And no one has ever been able to show me that. They've shown me all kinds of hypotheticals, this is and thats. You know, I did some of my own research on that way back in those years, back in the 1980s. And what I saw, and no one has ever contradicted that, is that grape juice was invented by Mr. Welch, you know, the same one, Welch's grape juice.
He invented it for the specific purpose of communion, because it was the time of the big temperance movement, and they were scandalized that, you know, they were not drinking any alcohol, even beer or wine. But in communion, now they were drinking wine, you know? I mean, they had always drunk wine, and it kind of was a scandal. And so he came up with a way of preserving grape juice, I say invented it, you know, of preserving it so it would not ferment.
Because you do not have to add yeast to turn grape juice into wine. It's got enough there already and enough sugars. It's going to turn into wine on its own in just a few days. So yeah, I mean, anything is possible, but there's no evidence of that. And since the early Christians had communion every Sunday, well, there's no way they could have used grape juice throughout the year because it would have fermented. You know, you could do it right that minute during the grape harvest, but not all throughout the year.
So to me, there's no question that it was wine that was being used. That's interesting. I hadn't thought about that. I also don't know why they would have talked about bringing out the best wine for last in that context. Yeah, oh yeah, exactly, yeah. All right.
