Finny delivers a good course that analyzes the soteriological system of Calvinism and addresses its most common arguments. Many good walk-throughs of the more difficult Scripture passages that Calvinists will claim teach their system.

My one critique is that the support from the early church could have been provided in a more thorough and convincing manner. Origen, for example, lists free will as a dogma of Christianity in his Preface to On First Principles. So it is not that he simply taught humans have free will: Origen taught that man's free will is an essential of the Christian faith. The quotes from Justin Martyr and Irenaeus supporting libertarian free will are also very in depth and at a very early date, so those really should open any skeptic's eyes to the fact that libertarian free will was the ante-nicene Christian faith.

Finney seems very well-read and careful in his Scriptural citations and interpretations throughout, but he made a mistake in citing a supposed quote mentioning "free will" from Clement of Rome in First Clement, which is certainly incorrect. There is no explicit reference to free will in 1 Clement. I think he was confusing a Justin Martyr quote, but I cannot be sure.

There is no 'fluff' here, just a concise overview, presented in an engaging way. I personally love quizzes, so I appreciated each lesson's quiz. This was a very succinct course and I enjoyed it very much.

This was very helpful hearing this information from an anababtist point of view. I have listened to Lieghton Flowers alot as my sister is in a reformed churches and that has been helpful as well in being able to have a defense for the correct view of these scriptures.
The discussions were well organized and had great points.

Highly recommend this course to explain the destructive and false doctrine of Calvinism versus biblical historical scripture. Calvinism is not in the Bible. Context kills Calvinism every time. Just read the whole Word of God!!

Helpful in many ways. I was previously confused about John 6 (was previously convinced by Augustine to use a deterministic reading) but after this course I restudied it and saw the true context and got that rock out of my shoe completely! Hallelujah!

I was already familiar with the Calvinism vs. Arminianism debate, but brother Finny shared some very valuable insights on Romans 9 which were very new to me. Can highly recommend it for anyone already wrestling with these questions.

There were so many Pastor and Authors that I followed that I didn't know where Calvinist. So many time I was confused and would be frustrated with my bible study not knowing that I was under the influence of Calvinism. I understand so much more now and I feel enlightened and excited about studying the bible again.

I have been a Calvinist for 6 years. My bookshelf is mostly John Piper, MacArthur, Sproul, Doug Wilson, and Spurgeon. I can safely say that after taking this course and being humble and open (keeping in mind the nonresistance and Christlike love of the early church and Anabaptists, knowing they believed this rather than Calvinism)... my views have changed. I'm definitely not a Calvinist anymore. What I am I do not know but I know I love Jesus more and I love everyone more because of this course!

I really never bothered with theology or ism's in church, but find myself in a church where the pastor is a calvinist. So I need to understand what it means and this course was a good introduction.

It was very benefiting to listen to the good explanations of why the common calvinistic "prooftexts" does not support their case. It was a very interesting course and I will continue to study the subject, since I have started to write a book in Swedish against Calvinism.

Finny Kuruvilla does an excellent job of laying out what the Calvinists believe by using their own words to explain their beliefs. He then examines their proof-texts using textual honesty and paying attention to the context. His explanations of the same texts are very consistent with the rest of Scripture, logically make great sense, and most importantly, are honest to a literal understanding of ALL the details. This course helped me to understand how Calvinists think and what they believe. I was also challenged to read honestly, let the text speak, and approach Scripture with the desire to understand what the passage really means, not to merely find support for my own conclusions.

I actually decided to listen to this course because I thought it would be a boring session of bashing Calvinists and twisting Scripture. I was very pleasantly disappointed. This stuff makes sense, and it matters.

I used to hold to Calvinistic views, and I listened to Caedmon’s Call back in the day, BUT when I finally learned that early Christians didn’t teach Calvinism, that sort of put a damper on things. 😭 Also, learning the Gnostics held to this view was disturbing… and that Augustine was the one who made it popular didn’t help much either, since he departed from Christ’s commands (and the apostles’) on non-resistance and more. I still don’t have it all figured out, but when in doubt, stop believing modern day doctrines, and go with the early Christian understanding.

This course is an honest, respectful attempt to expose the truth of Calvinism. Having been inside a church that espouses it, I can certainly agree that TULIP's "vowels hit your bowels"! I appreciated how Finny stuck to his outline and made disciplined, well-reasoned presentations. Given that Evangelicalism often appeals to people's intellects, it's important to counter disinformation with logical truth. Ultimately, faith is heart-led, and it's clear that Finny has a genuine faith. He's not just a good debater.

I appreciated this authoritative and thoughtful teaching on Calvinism... The course exposes error with truth from Scripture. It also abounds in grace toward those who have been taught a system of theology developed in the 16th century that turns a blind eye to 1st and 2nd century practice and writings. I also appreciated the danger of falling into the Arminian "ditch" in reaction to the worst of Calvinism.

I live in an area dominated by evangelical Calvinists. Often their point of view is brought to the foreground replete with Biblical allusions and and an assertiveness that disarms listeners. I wanted to affirm my own position that is opposition to Calvinism by studying under teachers who not only understand the nature of Calvinism, but are firm in the truth of Scripture allowing me to absorb talking points which I can then share when in conversation with a Calvinist who is defending his position.

This is a wake up call very much like the early church had to deal with in regards to the heretics of their times. There is nothing new under the sun and this course reminds us to be good Bereans and know the Truth so we can use the Truth to set people free.

I had already had my calvinistic interpretations shaken by a video on youtube by Mike Winger, but this definitely destroyed any possibility of trying to interpret the scriptures as I was taught. It also made me view the gospel as truly beautiful and that God has shown us His grace. Praise The LORD for these classes, I pray that He would use these to make a great impact in my generation.

As mentioned in the last session of the course, it would take a lot more time than what this course contains to cover all of the points of Calvinism thoroughly. With that being said, when considering the amount of time the course contains, I think Kuruvilla did an EXCELLENT job concisely covering the 5 points of Calvinism and giving alternative, in-context, simpler views for the scriptures often used to bolster the case for Calvinism. Great course.
