Good evening and welcome to each one here this evening. It's good to have each of y'all come out this evening. I hope it can be a time of encouragement, a time of worship. As the children share tonight, I just have a few thoughts I wanted to share this evening.

Some of it is directed towards the children that are up here and also some a little bit towards the parents. I guess this past year I taught three different classes. Music was one of those, and then I also taught phys ed to the fourth through sixth and phys ed also to the high schoolers. And I guess one of the things that stood out to me numerous times as I went to co-op school and came back home from co-op school was the energy. I often went and it just was like the whole place was pulsing with energy that you had to keep under control.

And it was a lot of fun, but I often left co-op school thinking about all the children that were there and all the potential and often thinking about where is that energy going to go. Is it being channeled in the right direction? And obviously I was teaching there. And so I often thought, and I different times, but after Curt asked me to share a little bit this evening, I thought about why do we have co-op school?

Why do we do it? Do we just do it or what? Yeah, what's the reason for having co-op school? Any parents that send your children to co-op school, why do you send your children to co-op school? Or do you just do it because everybody else does?

Anyone?

Nobody knows. We might have a real problem. Yeah.

I think that's a very key point why a lot of people go to co-op school is because it's participation as a group. It gives them a chance to participate in a group environment with being homeschooled. And I think it's a good thing. I also thought about it's a way to have others input in the children's lives, a way to teach them to listen to others. I also thought about it's a way to teach them. We send them to co-op school, I think for some of the reason is to teach them some things that we consider valuable. And I think tonight primarily we're here to hear music and that's something we consider valuable. We consider singing valuable.

And in order to learn to sing, you got to go somewhere to learn to sing or go to church somewhere. And so I was thinking about singing, and this is especially a challenge to the students. We were created to sing. We were created with a song, a song of some sort. And as y'all grow older, some of y'all are really, really young. And when my group sings, you'll notice this year I decided to focus pretty hard on trying to sing a lot of songs that had a lot of scripture in.

And I just was struck this past year about the value of scripture. And as y'all grow older, I remember co-op school. I remember having co-op school here. Most of my days of co-op school were actually here and then a few years at St. Thomas. But there's a lot of songs I remember to this day from my days of co-op school. And the challenge I want to let with you students is each of y'all have a choice which song you're going to have in your heart, which song you're going to allow to come forth from your heart. There's music all around us. What song are you going to choose? Just for a few verses to read, I'm going to read from Psalm 96.

It says, "Oh, sing unto the Lord a new song. Sing unto the Lord, all the earth. Sing unto the Lord, bless his name, show forth his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the heathen, his wonders among all people. For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised. He is to be feared above all gods.

For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the Lord made the heavens. Honor and majesty are before him. Strength and beauty are in his sanctuary. Give unto the Lord, O ye kindred of the people. Give unto the Lord glory and strength. Give unto the Lord glory, do unto his name. Bring an offering and come into his courts. Oh, worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness. Fear in the beauty of holiness. Fear before him, all the earth. Say among the heathen that the Lord reigneth. The world also shall be established, that it shall not be moved. He shall judge the people righteously. Let the heavens rejoice and let the earth be glad. Let the seas roar and the fullness thereof.

He shall judge the world with righteousness and the people with truth." And I don't have a lot of comments to make on this, but this song starts out by saying, "Oh, sing unto the Lord a new song." And I guess that's kind of a challenge I want to let with the children and also each of us as adults.

We, as the people of God, are going to have a new song in our hearts, a new song that may be different from the world around us. Are we singing with joy? And for you children, as you grow up and think about singing and think about what you're singing, just think about Psalm 96. I guess I was struck by that song and the different things that our song, our new song should be bringing forth. And one of the main things it brings out is we are to sing unto the Lord, to bless his name, to show forth his salvation, declare his glory, and tell how great God is.

And time and time again, it talks about the glory that is due the Lord. So think about your song that you're singing. Are you singing a song that is bringing glory to God? Is your life bringing glory to God? If not, we know the creation all around us is singing and bringing glory to God. And it talks about that in the song as well. It talks about the heavens rejoicing, rejoicing the earth, the sea roaring, the fields being joyful, and the trees. So that's my challenge to let with each of you.

Sing a new song that brings glory to God. Sing a song that tells the world of God's glory and his goodness. Before we proceed any further, let's all stand for prayer.

Father in heaven, we come before you just now. We want to thank you again for your love and for your care to each of us. We thank you for the way you have blessed our day. Thank you for the beautiful day that you gave to us. Father, I just pray that we take your word and the challenge to sing a song, a new song that brings you glory and brings honor to your name. Pray that you be with each of the children this evening. Pray you bless them as they share what they learned this year.

Just pray that you would give them calmness and help them to remember the things that they were taught. Pray all these things in the name of Jesus. Amen. You may be seated.

We had a good time at co-op this year, at least in the high school class. They were learning Spanish. Now, I heard bits and pieces of that one. And you know how it is when you hear a new language, the sounds kind of bump together. Well, that's kind of how it sounded to me. But I could catch on to a few things. But I think they learned a bit more, hopefully a lot more than I did. But we did enjoy current events time. And we considered such things as cricket bread, going to Mars, let's see, global warming, Susquehanna River, environmental issues.

And let's see, what else? I'm not going to catch them all, but gun control, mega vehicle wreck in Texas. Yeah, protests around the world. But anyway, Joe Biden. Anyway, so these were each student had a time where they researched that current event and they had to do a presentation on it. So it was interesting to consider. So thank you for doing that.

All right. And the younger classes did art classes and I'm not sure what all. They made lights and the middle class boys made some lights and different things like that. So there was a lot of good experiences. So thank you each one for participating in that way and your position where you're filling in. I thought about this verse in 1 Corinthians 3:9, it says, "For we are laborers together with God. Ye are God's husbandry and ye are God's building." Now, this isn't one man's show. This is us all together, working together for the glory of God. So thank you for your part.

And it's not really, it wasn't part of my bunch of songs that I had for them to share, but they learned to sing it in a six-part round. So we're going to go ahead and sing that, and then we'll go into singing the other songs that we had.

We picked this song because we have a lot of scripture that we sang this evening, and it talks about the Bible standing like a rock. And I especially like the last verse. Certainly, there's somebody that can read the Lord's Prayer. The Lord's Prayer. Not long ago, I wasn't sure if we had it back for this, but they really put their heart into it and got it memorized, so I appreciate that.

The song we're going to sing is called Una Espiga. This song brings back memories of 6,000 miles south of here.

I guess I should stand over here.

In the country of Chile, 20-couple years ago, Peter Hoover taught it to us, a small group there in Chile. And so whenever I think of this song, that's what the recollections that I get. I'll give the English rendition. Verse one, one grain glistening in the sun, a grape cluster cut by the vintner, symbolized through bread and wine, the broken body and shed blood, the love of Jesus.

This is probably, this is a co-op class that I have never had before in the range of parts that we have. This year, I've almost always had tenors and a few, or one or two that maybe can sing a little bass, but this year it went way the other way, where there is six good bass and about two or three more that probably should be singing bass. And then there's only a few tenors, so it's very different this year than what we've had. But so we're going to sing a few songs about the Christian life, what God, the hope that the Christian has, and where we should turn to, and just some questions for us to ponder, and then also some instruction from scripture as well.

So we hope you enjoy it as we have as well.

So we have the picture painted of God giving mercy to those who ask for it. And if you want to have righteousness in your life, to surrender your life to Christ, if that's your experience, then the next song we'll sing is "Christ Be Our Light." There's a lot of words in this song, and it kind of paints a picture of many things: people wishing for some light, longing for peace, people are looking for food, longing for shelter.

The last verse says, "Many the gifts and many the people, many the heart that yearn to belong, let us be servants to one another, making Your kingdom come." And that's really what it's about. It's about working together under the head of Christ so that the light of Jesus will shine in every heart, in every situation. So we're going to sing this, and may I challenge you to shine your light where you are and use what God has given you to the best of your ability.

Longing for light, we wait in darkness. Longing for truth, we turn to You. Make us Your home, Your holy people, life for the world to see.

It's talking about an eternal home that the Christian can look forward to and enjoy if they live faithfully with the Lord today. So this has been kind of a fun song for us. We've enjoyed singing it.

I just want to thank all the children. I thought everyone did a really good job from the youngest class to the oldest class. I sensed a lot of life and heart. I really appreciated that and enjoyed it. And I also wanted to thank Kurt and Andrew.

Sorry, I don't know all the names of the ones that taught the younger classes, but Maren for his effort teaching Spanish. Just a lot of the time and effort that went into that. Some of us had it really easy. And I really appreciate the sacrifice and the time that went into this. Thank you.

Heavenly Father, thank you so much for the Lord Jesus. Thank you for a reason to sing. Thank you for these children. I pray that this evening would have been a blessing to each other and a glory to your name. I pray that you would bless the food, strengthen us with it, and I pray that our fellowship would be a blessing to one another.
